Last edited: geebee My Member is Well-Known #2 i am pretty sure a 5.4:1 gear ratio means the spool turns 5.4 times for one completed crank of the handle but why would their low gears be designed at 2.0:1 and 1.9:1 - why not 1.7:1 for example - it seems like their low gears could be a little lower or are they saving that for the 3-speed price point Last edited: geebee My Member is Well-Known #3 OK -- IF I’M TALKING TO MYSELF -- HERE’S MY SPIN: personality wise, the EX 30 reel reminds me of a basic over-built commercial sewing machine workhorse designed in a simplified classic sense to do one thing: Stitch reliably under heavy professional use on the other hand, I would describe the HX Raptor as a sportsman’s reel with its higher and lower gear ratios, much lighter weight, silent dogs, Magic Cast, stronger dual drag system if you need a kite or trolling reel or deep-sea monster rig, the EX’s heavier frame and conservative gear ratios would favor the Pro EX reels (i would think) BUT TO ANSWER MY ORIGINAL QUESTION, THE MATH IS EASY: the HX Raptor moves the line an additional 10 inches per crank in high gear (over the EX 30/2)
